DIY Repurposed Coffee Can to Storage E Z Decoupage

This Used to be A Coffee Can!

Not only can you roll up magazines and place them in here for storage, but if you use the larger sized cans of coffee you can keep a spare roll of Toilet paper inside. No one will ever have to ask you where the extra roll is because it will be enclosed in this lovely storage container.

Necessity is the Mother of Invention and the Inspiration behind so many of my projects

That’s why my book is titled, “Upcycle with Decoupage” It’s projects like these that I love the most. I have plenty of napkins on hand, I have plenty of cans around and a very inexpensive project becomes something that looks quite charming and it’s functional! LOVE that! So aside from the coffee cans, you’ll also need some saran wrap, heavy grit nail files and furniture polish. *The furniture polish is to remove any labels and residue from the metal cans.

Decoupage Using Rice Paper and Dye Inks

So we had a party a week ago. My brother was in from Florida, I invited the majority of our neighbors and we ordered some Italian Food from our favorite Italian place, Mama Flora’s. I had finished all of the shopping for everything else, and then I noticed it…. a complete mish-mash of wine glasses. Some that were gifted, some that had been with us since the beginning, some that we got along the way when we needed more. I hated to throw them away, they were perfectly fine. I knew I couldn’t make it to Goodwill for a few weeks and that’s when it hit me, I can make VOTIVES out of these!!! I got all excited. Over the summer I took a mixed media course and we used Dye inks for all of our projects. We used a lot more than that but as always, I tend to try to figure out ways to incorporate new things that I learn into decoupage. I already had this rice paper (Calligraphy paper) on hand – I purchased it originally for use in my copier. Uh, no. Maybe it was just my printer but it constantly jammed up inside the printer so that by the end of an hours worth of attempts all of the pets had hidden in different area’s of the house. I knew I would be able to work with the paper in the future though-so today’s video was all about the rice paper and Dye Inks.

Turning a Wine Glass into a Votive- Repurposing at it’s best.

Using the inks I was able to create some votives to help ease us into Autumn. Amber, Rust, Yellow, Orange and some burgundy all went into this weeks project. While I don’t like taking down my summer crafts, the shell wreaths, the floral pots with summer flowers, and the ocean themed projects …I did love adding these little beauties to those new empty spaces. I simply inked the papers, added stencils and a stamp and tore the paper into strips. I then decoupaged those papers onto the surface of the glass. Seriously, this was so satisfying.

Go on ahead and watch the video and in the meantime- don’t forget that while you’re shopping through my site, you can order anything you need from Amazon while you’re there. You don’t have to sign out and buy the unrelated items by signing back in. Don’t forget that Upcycle with Decoupage is on Facebook and when you hit “like” and “follow” you’ll be notified every week when I put a new video out!
